INTERCOM – Brazilian Association of Interdisciplinary Studies in Communication was created on December 12th 1977. It’s a non-profit organization whose aim is to gather researchers and professionals of communications under an interdisciplinary perspective. It has more than 800 members all around Brazil as well as abroad. Its main office is located in São Paulo. The INTERCOM has a board of directors elected by its members every three years. Ours association is among the largest and best structured institutions that represents the communication field.

Organization of one national and five regional conferences annually;

 Promotion of seminars, short term courses and symposiums;
|
 |
Encouraging the development of research;
|
 |
Editing and publication of books and academic journals on communication subjects;
|
 |
Promotion of Portuguese language research by PORTCOM (Documentation Center of Communication in Portuguese-speaking Countries), in partnership with institutions of education and culture, museums, archives and libraries for public access;

 |
Encouragement and advice to training scientific, technological, cultural and artistic researchers, teachers, professionals and experts in communication by partnership with scholarship granting organizations;
|
 |
Promotion of prizes for students, researchers and authors;
|
 |
Planning and administration of courses on scientific, technological, cultural or artistic subjects related to communication for improvement of educational and professional institutions;
|
 |
Organization of communication studies in Research Groups (GPs) by different interests and approach on communication field; and
|
 |
Establishment of agreements and partnerships with similar associations to promote the research and to exchange information in Brazil and abroad; nowadays INTERCOM organizes regularly bi-laterals colloquiums with Argentina, Canada, Chile, France, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Spain and USA. |
